Open Sewing Sessions

Open Sewing Sessions - Tuesday 24th March 9.45 - 11.45am & Wednesday 25th March 7.30 - 9.30pm

An informal two hour session for budding and experienced sewers alike. Bring along a project or a problem and work it through with support at hand. Maybe you just want to get going on the pattern you've had for ages or maybe you'd like to improve your machine skills. Be inspired by others to take on new challenges.


Each session will include a short, detailed look at a particular skill which you'll be able to practice, perfect and take away to use at home!


What do I need to bring?
  • Project/Pattern & thread to match fabric
  • A basic sewing kit
  • You can bring your own machine if you have one but there will be machines available for use.

Coffee, tea and biscuits will be provided.

Venue: Ringmer Village hall (St. Mary's Hall & Jack Hart Hall)

Cost: This 2 hour course is just £15



Upcycling & Alterations

Upcycling & Alterations - Wednesday 4th march 7.30 - 9.30pm & Tuesday 17th March 9.45 - 11.45am

An exciting new class where you will learn how to make changes to clothing to make them more interesting, original or simply to fit you better.


What we will cover:

  • Seams
  • Hems
  • Darts
  • Fabrics  
  • Applique
  • Shirring                                                                                                                                                                  

What do I need to bring?

  • Garment/s that you want to alter or upcycle
  • Thread to match your fabric
  • A basic sewing kit
  • You can bring your own machine if you have one but there will be machines available for use.
Coffee, tea and biscuits will be provided.

Venue: Ringmer Village Hall (St Mary's Room & Jack Hart Hall)

Cost: This 2 hour course is just £15

Learn to love your sewing machine

Learn to love your sewing machine & learn all the basics - Saturday 7th March 10 - 1pm

During this 3 hour workshop you'll learn everything you need to learn to sew.


We will cover the following:

  • The parts of the sewing machine
  • Threading a machine and winding a bobbin
  • Basic sewing machine maintenance
  • Seams
  • Hems
  • Buttonholes

What do you need to bring?

  • Half a metre of medium weight woven cotton fabric
  • 1 x 40 inch square cushion pad
  • Thread to match your fabric
  • A basic sewing kit
  • You can bring your own machine if you have one but there will be machines available for use.
Coffee, tea and biscuits will be provided.

Cost: This three hour course is just £20!

Cushion Workshop

Cushion Workshop - Saturday 28th March 10 - 1pm & Tuesday 10th March 9.45 - 11.45am

Create a gorgeous professional-looking cushion cover yourself. I’ll show you how to make a piped cushion with a zip fastening.


We will cover the following:

  • Marking fabric and cutting
  • How to create professional corners
  • How to insert piping
  • How to insert a zip

What do you need to bring?

  • A square or rectangle cushion pad – any size
  • A zip approx the width of your cushion pad
  • Enough fabric (preferably cotton medium weight) to make a front and back with seam allowances
  • Thread to match your fabric
  • Piping cord enough to go around the cushion pad(You can buy pre-covered piping cord)
  • Pre cut bias binding tape in a contrast colour enough to go around your cushion pad
  • A basic sewing kit
  • You can bring your own machine if you have one but there will be machines available for use.
Please don’t spend a lot of money on fabric, a simple calico will do if you want to gain confidence before unleashing yourself on the expensive stuff!
